What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?
Class teachers will post learning activities on the Classworks page within your child’s Google Classroom. Work posted will cover all of the core subjects, along with topic-based activities. On the second day of remote learning, all class teachers will be delivering live lessons.
We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school. Children will be taught English, Reading or Phonics, Maths and Topic sessions everyday.
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day? We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day: Subject Duration English 1 hour Reading/Phonics 30 minutes Maths 1 hour Topic 90 minutes
How will my child access any online remote education you are providing? Click on the link on the text message received and submit your PIN code. You will be taken to a page where you can access your child’s Google login details. In addition, you can access the school website and watch videos on:
1. How to access Google Classroom using login details
2. How to join a live lesson
3. How to access worksheets posted by your child’s class teacher
4. How to submit work completed as a result of the live lesson
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:
5. Laptops provided by the school allocated to disadvantaged families as a priority
6. WiFi SIM cards can be collected from school which provides free WiFi
7. Learning Packs posted to families for children to complete and sent to teachers for feedback
8. All live lessons are recorded and posted in the classroom for children to access at a more suitable time if required
We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:
Class teachers will teach live lessons everyday with full coverage of the national curriculum. Children (if age appropriate) will be given the opportunity to carry out work on an editable document that can be submitted and marked by the teacher. In addition, teachers may signpost children to previously recorded lessons and commercially available videos supporting the teaching of specific subjects.

Class teachers actively encourage all children to have their cameras turned on during sessions. Teachers ask children to either show or submit their work and feedback is provided in line with our Marking and Feedback Policy. If there are any patterns of behaviour that are cause for concern, parents will be contacted directly by the child's class teacher.
Wheelers Lane Primary School uses verbal feedback as a central part of formative assessment in every lesson. National research indicates that this is the most effective strategy for accelerating progress. Children receive this form of feedback in every phase of the lesson, including whole class tasks and independent work. Feedback is relevant and specific and concentrates on moving learning forward. In addition, class teachers provide detailed written feedback on a weekly basis in every subject. Every piece of work is acknowledged. How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:
9. Children may, if appropriate, be directed to join in the learning activities of other classes or to watch the recording at a different time.
10. Resources, including online resources and hard copy work sheets, will be provided when needed.
11. Any advice from external providers eg Speech or Occupational Therapy plans will continue to be shared with home by those therapists and this work can continue at home.
12. Support from the SENDCo as and when needed via Google classroom or phone
13. Oak National Academy Specialist content for pupils with SEND covers communication and language, numeracy, creative arts, independent living, occupational, physical and speech and language therapy and is always available for families to access.

Where individual pupils need to self-isolate but the majority of their peer group remains in school, remote education provided differs from the approach for whole groups. This is due to the challenges of teaching pupils both at home and in school.
If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?
Your child will be signposted to lessons provided by Oak National Academy. Families without suitable online access will be provided with year group specific learning packs.
Recorded assemblies presented by the Senior Leadership Team and our teaching staff will be available to watch every Monday, Tuesday and Friday (celebration assembly) at 9am. All assemblies will be posted on your child's classroom page.
