Who are we?

Wheelies is the Parent, Teacher and Friends Association (PTFA) for Wheelers Lane Primary School and a registered charity.

But what does that actually mean?

Put simply, if you are a parent, carer or member of staff at Wheelers Lane, you are part of Wheelies.

A small committee is elected each year to formally run the charity, but Wheelies is much bigger than the committee. It is parents, carers, staff and friends of the school giving a little bit of their time, sharing ideas, donating items or simply supporting our events.

You can be involved as much or as little as you like.

What is our vision?

Our aim is simple. We want to support our school and help give our children opportunities and experiences beyond what the school budget can always provide.

We raise money for enrichment activities, trips, experiences, resources and projects around the school.

We also want to help build a strong school community. That is why Wheelies isn't only about fundraising. We support activities such as SEND Cafés, parent wellbeing sessions, gardening projects and events that bring our families together.

What do we do?

You might know us from the Summer Fayre, Christmas activities, raffles, Tuck Shop, uniform sales, toy sales or baking competitions.

Behind the scenes, we're also raising funds and working with the school on projects and activities that benefit the children.

In a typical year, Wheelies contributes around £5,000 to £6,000 directly towards school trips and enrichment activities, alongside other projects, resources and improvements funded throughout the year.

Every cake bought, raffle ticket sold, uniform donation and hour volunteered adds up.

Where does the money go?

Money raised by Wheelies goes back into supporting the school and its children.

We work with the school to agree where our funding can make the biggest difference. This might mean helping towards school trips, theatre visits, outdoor spaces, equipment, enrichment activities or a particular project the school would otherwise struggle to fund.

Our committee and members discuss and agree significant spending rather than one person deciding where the money goes.

How is Wheelies run?

Because Wheelies is a registered charity, there are rules about how we operate.

We have a constitution which sets out how the charity should be run. We have an elected committee responsible for overseeing it, and we hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) every year.

At the AGM, the existing committee formally steps down and a committee is elected for the year ahead. This gives members the opportunity to get involved, stand for a role and vote.

We also keep minutes of our meetings, financial records and annual accounts, so there is a clear record of the decisions we make, the money we raise and how it is spent.

In short, we're parents and volunteers, but we're also responsible for running the charity properly and transparently.

How can I get involved?

However works for you.

You don't need to join the committee or attend every meeting.

You could help at Tuck Shop once in a while, sort donated uniform, run a stall at the Summer Fayre, bake a cake, donate a raffle prize, help with gardening, share a fundraising idea or volunteer for an hour when we need an extra pair of hands.

Or, if you'd like to become more involved, you can join our meetings or consider standing for the committee when it is renewed each year.

There really is no minimum commitment. Lots of people doing a little is what keeps Wheelies going.
