Geography

‘Geography is a living, breathing subject, constantly adapting itself to change. It is dynamic and relevant. For me geography is a great adventure with a purpose. Geography is a subject which holds the key to our future.’ Michael Palin
At Wheelers Lane Primary School, Geography provokes and provides answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. The children develop an understanding of how the features of the world have changed over time and how different aspects of our surroundings affect and depend on each other. Our curriculum inspires our children to have a strong sense of curiosity and fascination.

We are passionate that all children appreciate the world around them and their place in it. Through inspirational lessons, the children learn skills that equip them for life and foster aspirations to explore our global community.

We have designed and implemented an investigative Geography curriculum, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills by:

Understanding Human and Physical Geography;

Engaging the local community;

Exploring cross curricular links, including: History, Science and Sustainability.

Geography will be taught as a discrete subject in class following the sequence detailed in the curriculum overview.
The children are able to use high quality Geographical vocabulary. Work will be recorded in Geography books and is consistently of high standard. Work in books demonstrates understanding and progression both throughout the year as well as throughout their time at WLPS. Progress is measured against the National Curriculum requirements and standards.
